Warranty, Service and the Cost Nobody Calculates
Buyers compare price, specifications and reviews exhaustively, and almost never compare what happens after something fails. In India in particular, this is frequently the difference between a good purchase and an expensive mistake.
Service network coverage matters more than warranty length
A three-year warranty is worthless if the nearest authorised centre is four hours away or the brand has minimal presence in your city. A one-year warranty from a company with a service point nearby is more valuable in practice. Check coverage in your actual location before comparing warranty terms.
Parts availability outlasts the warranty period
Most products fail after the warranty expires, at which point what matters is whether parts exist and whether independent technicians can obtain them. Brands that restrict parts to authorised channels effectively set an expiry date on the product. Established local brands frequently outperform premium imports on this specifically.
Read what is excluded
Warranties routinely exclude the most common failures — physical damage, liquid ingress, battery degradation, wear parts, and anything a technician can attribute to misuse. The excluded list is more informative than the headline period.
Extended warranties are usually poor value
These are high-margin products sold at the point of purchase, and the statistics favour the seller substantially. Exceptions exist for expensive items with genuinely high failure rates, but the default assumption should be that the money is better retained.
Grey imports void everything
Products bought outside official channels frequently carry no local warranty at all, regardless of what the seller claims. The discount is real and so is the exposure, which is worth understanding before rather than after.
The question to ask before buying
What does this cost to repair after the warranty ends, and who can do it? If the answer is “replacement is cheaper”, the product has a fixed lifespan and should be priced accordingly in your comparison.
